a ballerina weds a drummer at her childhood home in newport
I truly think all of my couples are special - and I truly mean that - but these two are extra special. But before you think hey now - it’s because Cameron, the groom, is one of my closest friends (and now Kiersten, his lovely wife, too.)
Cameron and I met just a little over ten years ago at Manhattan School of Music - a precollege weekend program for young musicians. Each Saturday, for quite literally years, Cameron and I had a tradition of meeting up early before class (thanks Dad for driving me into NYC, very early each Saturday - ALL those mornings) of meeting up for coffee (hot chocolate for me!) at our favorite cafe in Harlem. There we talked about our first loves, our dream colleges, our music goals, everything and everything - turning into a decade long friendship.
In summer of 2019, right before I moved to NYC (from Boston where I began my wedding photography journey), I got a call from Cameron that he had met a girl - and that she was THE girl. He was playing drums at Vail Jazz Festival and she was dancing with her ballet company. After her performance and just as Cameron’s began, he spotted her. As he started to play his set, he quickly noticed Kiersten knew quite literally every single word to the old tunes he was playing. Cameron, an old soul at heart (especially a lover of old soul and rock) instantly fell in love with not only her incredibly memory for lyrics (just kidding of course - that was only 1% of it) but her kind eyes and radiant smile. Kiersten is the kind of person that simply lights up a room with her presence and grace. She compliments Cameron’s energy and upbeat drummer self so perfectly. They both knew that night that this was it.
Wanting a short engagement, Cameron and Kiersten planned a backyard wedding at her childhood home in Newport, Rhode Island in just six months. Hoping for sunshine (Newport sunsets are truly a sight to see), it poured all day. Hoping for no tent, tent it was, but that only provided for a more cozy feeling - listening to the vows as rain drops trickled off the tent top was quite a magical moment if I must say so.
Cheers to the most wonderful couple and friends of mine.
